I'm just a healthophile, and that does not make me a bad person.
On the way to work this morning, I stopped at a gas station to buy a soda, water and Chex. I walked in the door and glanced toward the register and turned my behind right around and walked out without buying a damn thing.
At the register was this guy who looked quite emaciated and had a large purplish shiny sore looking thing on his forehead. I'm no doctor - it could have been road rash or something - but why take the chance? I didn't want him touching something I was going to be consuming and I didn't want his hands on my debit card either!
When I got to the car, my brother told me that I am ridiculous and that maybe I ought to take some rubber gloves and masks for my road trip in case I see any more dirty looking people. But honestly, I don't think I was being unreasonable. Why would anyone purposely go near someone that looks sick??? I'm not going to rub up against someone's chicken pox or make out with someone with mono, and you wouldn't either! I wouldn't have bought anything from ANYONE (male/female/gay/straight/etc.) with a sore on their face like that and I'm not a bigot but I'm sorry...everyone knows that there is a certain sore-causing ailment that affects gay men more than others...so, with that taken into consideration, I didn't feel comfortable with any kind of contact. Whatever.
